The England manager Questions Home Fan Atmosphere Despite Comfortable Win Over Wales.
The England head coach expressed his disappointment that the England team did not receive stronger support from the home spectators during their decisive friendly win against Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was happy to see his team showcase their good form, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the initial stages effectively ending the match. Yet, he was unhappy with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half training days to prepare against a well-trained team and we excelled,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the team earned more support today.”
“I stand by my words. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a little more backing in periods where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by omitting Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the decision was validated by Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach said. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on next week, learn from their awful performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” Bellamy commented. “I need to see where we are. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? Today fills me with motivation.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was withdrawn at the break after colliding with a goalpost and will be a doubt when the national team play their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
